A Fifth of Freedom, part 2
Christ has freed us
so that we may enjoy
the benefits of freedom.
— Galatians 5:1, The Names of God Bible
As I’ve said for three days now, I’m not making up the title of this translation; it’s genuine.
Did you take time to read through all of Galatians 5, like we started to yesterday?
It’s pretty wild stuff, including St. Paul’s expression of a desire for those causing the trouble he addresses to, well, actually mutilate themselves.
Move your camera away from that image.
The third paragraph of Galatians 5 says —
When you attempt to live by your own religious plans and projects, you are cut off from Christ, you fall out of grace.
Meanwhile we expectantly wait for a satisfying relationship with the Spirit.
For in Christ, neither our most conscientious religion nor disregard of religion amounts to anything.
What matters is faith expressed in love.
— Seems pretty clear to me: it’s time to stop trying to save ourselves and start enjoying the benefits of freedom Christ gives us…and it all starts and end with expressions of love: both Christ’s and ours.
For which I’m thankful, and by which I’m challenged and encouraged.
How about you?
