“It’s not about what it’s not about,” was among several lines of his I scribbled onto a napkin. You’ll see more of those here at some point in the future, but those seven simple words lit me up.

“It’s not about what it’s not about” is a reminder of what Steven Covey taught with his third of Seven Habits of Highly Effective People: “Put first things first.”

Sounds simple. It is.

But simple and easy can be far apart.

“It’s not about what it’s not about” is a reminder to not get side-tracked, or lost in the weeds, or as a mentor of mine used to say, not to major in the minor things.

So many people in so many arenas of life lose focus. So do groups, corporations, and yup even churches. This is not for you.
