We Know Those Four People

March 10, 2017

There was an important job to be done.

Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.

Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

Somebody got angry about that,

because it was Everybody’s job.

Everybody thought Anybody could do it,

but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it.

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when

Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I wish I’d written that. First time I heard it was too long ago for me remember, but I’ve never forgotten it.

Probably like the rest of us, I’ve forgotten to apply it and live into it.

Pretty serious stuff…after all, St. Paul says, “All of you together are Christ’s body, and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27, New Living Testament).

True.

Can I quote this? Who gets the credit?

Thanks for asking, Naomi! Of course, please do — but as to the Four People story, it’s been around so long and I’ve heard it and used it for so long, without knowing who gets credit for this version of it. I looped the 1st Corinthians part into it. Feel free to run with it from there, and here’s to it making a difference!
