When You’re Hurting & It’s Monday
“Last week I received some soul-crushing/life-changing news,” writes John Bohlinger, a top Nashville musician. “No need to spill all the miserable details, just insert your favorite catastrophe.”
He proceeds to describe the short-term benefits of simply getting back to work in the midst of it all. Citing the old line The show must go on, he says that within a few hours of receiving his devastating news he was scheduled to play the opening night of a festival-sized tour.
He went, he played. He survived, and eventually he thrived.
In other words, in his world it was a Monday and time to get back to work. He recommends that.
“Your problems won’t go away, but they will probably seem more manageable,” he concludes. “When you’re hurting, The show must go on translates to Life goes on.”
I’m still a strong proponent of helpful therapy; nothing can replace that.
But Mr. Bohlinger’s point is a good one: “When you’re hurting, The show must go on translates to Life goes on.”
And today’s Monday. For many, time to get back to work. Maybe it’s also time to make an appointment with a qualified therapist to begin to deal with whatever “soul-crushing/life-changing” stuff’s going on in your own life. If so, please put that at the top of your To Do List today.
Really.
“When you’re hurting, The show must go on translates to Life goes on,” and I’d like to have you continue being a part of it.
It’s Monday, and I hope to see you back here Tuesday.
It’s Wednesday and the soul-crushing news arrived on Friday, and as I was clearing my head, on Saturday. bam down I went. It may have been Thursday before I am here, but I needed the reminder even today.
