“Still Learning”
Here’s the prayer that’s on a tag that was attached to a great number of people’s book bags and work bags this weekend in our worship services. Join the rest of us in praying it this week —
God of all knowledge and wisdom,
we pray your blessing on these students,
young and old, as they begin a new year.
Help them to discover
and develop the gifts
you have given them.
As they grow in knowledge,
help them also to grow in kindness and compassion,
learning respect for themselves and others.
Strengthen them with encouragement, support, and love.
in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Notice that first sentence, God of all knowledge and wisdom,we pray your blessing on these students, young and old, as they begin a new year.
It acknowledges the source of all truth as being God.
As we pray this together, we ask for God’s care and grace for people of all ages who are still learning. Just as I believe we’re all either in recovery from something or will be, so do I believe we’re all still growing in our understandings.
May this be for you “a day of new beginnings,” as a song says and as this prayer reminds us:
God of all knowledge and wisdom,
we pray your blessing on these students,
young and old, as they begin a new year.
See you back here tomorrow.
