“The Spring of Souls Today”
“‘Tis the spring of souls today;
Christ hath burst his prison,
and from three days’ sleep in death
as a sun hath risen;
all the winter of our sins, long and dark,
is flying from his light,
to whom we give laud and praise undying.”
—verse 2 of Come, Ye Faithful, Raise the Strain
It’s over. It’s happened.
It’s ongoing. It’s a process.
This Easter Song’s verse reminds us that Easter is both a done deal and an open-ended event.
What Christ did, he’s done. It’s called the Resurrection.
Some of the attendant implications are still going to happen today. They’re called acceptance of grace and forgiveness.
Verse 2 tells us that it is in our worship and praise undying that all the winter of our sins melt away like the spring of souls today.
Let’s remember that and bask in the warmth of the love of the Resurrected Christ.
Starting right now.
