Un-Complicating Faith

March 9, 2013

“Why can’t you simply believe?”

—Luke 24:25, The Message version of The Bible

Jesus asked this third question on The Road to Emmaus.

You and I get asked that question lots of times in lots of ways.

Why do we make it all so complicated?

Or as Jesus still asks, “Why can’t you simply believe?”

Join me this weekend in un-complicating faith.

What’s one thing you could do to help yourself “simply believe?”

Just accept the truth of John 3:16. God so loved ME, not because of how good I am, or how organized I am, or how good I can cook, or how pretty my voice is, or how well I serve the community or the church. He loves me in spite of how I fail to love generously, serve humbly or just choose to be disobedient. If there is work to be done in my life (as I know there is), He will show me that as we travel together through my life. It took me many years to understand this truth but now that I understand, it is so freeing.

Mine is to stop worrying so much, just simply believe. Thanks for the reminder, Joe.

“Just simply believe” — Right there with ya, Jenny. On a pretty regular basis. Thanks for this!
