Transitions, part 1

August 1, 2021

One month ago today a new class of Retired Pastors joined our ranks of Retirees in our Conference. My hope and prayer is that it’s going well for them and the people in their lives.

There’s a prayer in our official United Methodist Book of Worship about this very thing that’s fabulous. It has application far beyond retirement. Let’s spend some time with it this week —

Eternal God,

you hold the times and seasons,

endings and beginnings, in your hands.

— What could more appropriate than to start with a reminder of Who’s in charge?

And I love the wording endings and beginnings, don’t you? You and I have first-hand knowledge that what so often seems to be the former turns out to be the latter.

Take some time today and look in your rearview mirror.

And join me in being grateful for transitions and opportunities.

As always, I look forward to hearing from you and I’ll see you back here tomorrow.
