You and Steve Martin and St. Paul
Amy Nelson, a friend who’s a professional trumpet player, shared this great Steve Martin quote with me recently, and it’s with her permission that I share it with you today —
“Whatever makes you unique
as a performer, do it.
And know that there’s room for you.”
— Steve Martin
— Thank you, Amy!
Steve Martin’s sure lived into that.
He’s gone from entertaining on the sidewalks at Knotts Berry Farm, toΒ becoming a regular guest on late night television, to starring in comedies in movie theaters, to writing and working behind the camera.
And all along he’s been dancing to his own drummer
I say not just because I was in seminary with a guy who knew Steve Martin from high school, but because the man is brilliant.
In his own way.
His own unique way.
St. Paul had the same sorta thing in mind when he wrote about you.
Yes, you.
You’re important to the body of Christ: All these gifts we are and bring, all these gifts are the work of one and the same Spirit, who apportions them to each one as He determines. The body is a unit, though it is comprised of many parts. And although its parts are many, they all form one body. So it is with Christ. (1st Corinthians 12:11,12)
“There’s room for you,” as Steve Martin said.
To connect Steve and Paul if I may:
Whatever makes you unique
as a Christian, bring that.
And know that there’s room for you.
Amen!! This will be my excuse for my own ‘drummer’ attitude, etc., & I’m stickin’ to it!! π¬
