A New Day

August 2, 2017

Give me hope

in the darkness

that I will

see the light

— Mumford + Sons

We’ve been there.

Time and space don’t permit our details here and now, but it’s real.

To one degree or another, you and I are among those of whom the Old Testament sings, The people walking in darkness have seen a great light. (Isaiah 9:2)

Yup, been there, walking in darkness. And we have bumps and bruises and scrapes and scars to show for it.

But by the grace of God, we’ve seen a great light.

What exactly did we do to bring this great light into our own darkness? Pretty much the same thing we did to make this morning start and to make the sun shine today.

As the Old Testament prophet Isaiah goes on to say in the rest of Isaiah 9:2on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.

In other words, we did nothing.

And a new day began. Without our help.

Thanks be unto God! Amen?
