Living in The Land of In-Between
Yesterday was the first Sunday in Advent, obviously making this is the first week of Advent.
Just like all the rest of life, this particular Season of The Gospel is several things at once. We’re called to look in three directions: behind, and ahead, and where we are right now. That’s tricky stuff.
I find this particularly helpful this morning:
Like Mary,
we celebrate
the coming of the Christ child,
what God has already done.
And we wait in expectation
of the full coming of God’s reign on earth
and for the return of Christ, what God will yet do.
( — Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals, p. 50)
And during this particular time in history especially, we realize God has placed us in what seems to be an unusual time of In-Between.
Two Questions:
As our new work week begins, what is a fresh way you can celebrate what God has already done?
And today, in those moments when we’re forced to wait, what are some of the implications for us as we wait in expectation of the full coming of God’s reign on earth and for the return of Christ?
I’d love to hear from you, and I’ll see you back here tomorrow.
