When Tiger Woods Looks in The Rearview Mirror

December 9, 2015

“I peaked at 11,” Tiger Woods says.

He’ll be 40 later this month. In an interview with Lorne Rubenstein in the December 14, 2015 issue of Time magazine, he talks about his three back surgeries, his children, and his relationship with his ex-wife.

He also says, “I peaked at 11, to be honest with you. I went 36-0 that year, never lost a tournament and I probably had the cutest girlfriend all of sixth grade. And I had straight A’s. No A-minuses. I’ve been trying to get back to that ever since.”

The two lines he opens and closes that paragraph with have stuck with me —

“I peaked at 11”

and

“I’ve been trying to get back to that ever since”

— both sound so sad, especially coming from Tiger.

Makes me wonder.

About a lot of things.
