You and The Kicker from Texas A&M
As another great weekend of football starts with an NFL game this evening, let me take you back to a recent college game day.
Texas A&M had the ball. Tied at 21 with Arkansas. Three seconds left in the game. Field Goal attempt or go for a Touchdown?
One of the announcers said this, speaking of Taylor Bertolot, the kicker for Texas A&M:
He’s got the leg
if he’s got the aim
if he gets the chance.
Meaning that Bertolot had the strength to kick from this distance. If he could harness it and focus his efforts accurately. But first the coach had put him in the game.
Hear the good news: today you and I are in the game. Maybe it’s a game called Going to School, or Going to Work, or Working at Home, or Going to Therapy, or Taking Care of Someone, or…or… or even….
Our reality is that we’re on the field and in the game today.
How’s your aim?
I know you have the strength. Yup. Here’s why: God energizes those who get tired. Those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles. They run and don’t get tired. They walk and don’t lag behind. (Isaiah 40:29,31)
By the grace of God, you got this today.
You got this.
I think, today anyway, I fall into that “Those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31 NKJ. This two weeks has, after all, been about renewal of strength and will!
