A Whole New Word — at least to me

October 6, 2015

I know what it means by experience, and probably you do, too.

Pastor Jessica and I were together at a recent ministry training event when I heard the wordIt says so much so simply.

It’s a clever combination of two other words, which sounds right away like how much of the German language works. I’ll stop that thought right there, for fear of losing you in the weeds of my minor in college.

The word’s an English word, generally thought to have originated in a military context, although most organizations routinely practice this in one form or another.

Sometimes a look, or even a glance, is all it takes and boom you know you’ve just had this happen to you.

The word?

“Voluntold.”

Yup.

Again, I know what it means by experience, and probably you do, too.

“Voluntold.”

I’m just guessing here, but probably our old friend St. Paul knew about being “voluntold.” He wrote, For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward, but if not of my own will, I am still entrusted with a stewardship. (1st Corinthians 9:17)

Sounds like you and I, along with St. Paul, have been “voluntold” about that whole stewardship thing….

Is there really room for radical Christians anymore. So many of our programs, want to carry the cross and flame- like “We” were here! Have the members of the church ever heard from the pastors of churches in other countries just ask to have money and other resources to do it as God wants them to? I realize that mission trips are good; but what about going into the inner city and doing something; or helping rural churches; and even more unbelievable- take a whole group of kids, from the innercity and letting them go to church camp at no cost. People dream dreams and there is always a reason not to do it, Father forgive me for not having faith enough that all may find Christ as Christ and not be satisified with anything else. Still dreaming Praise God.

I like the direction you’re going here, Steve; what’s the next step now?

Walk the walk, as if you only talk it to death (no examples here) and they don’t see it, you may as well be speaking Greek. (four years of high school German and two college semesters of German, all straight A’s, so I would understand you, hee hee)!!
