Advice for Life from Rev. Sharon

June 18, 2015

Sharon is another colleague who shared advice as she retired at Annual Conference last week.

“Take care of yourself. Get rest.”

Wait, wait, there’s so much to do!

“Take care of yourself. Get rest.”

But so many people expect so much!

“Take care of yourself. Get rest.”

I will, later. You have no idea what all’s going on right now!

“Take care of yourself. Get rest.”

Sharon’s right. But it’s hard for some of us to hear.

Sharon’s idea isn’t original with her.

She’s echoing part of God’s Top Ten List that’s found in Exodus 20:8-11.

She’s advising we follow the incomparable example of Genesis 2:2.

She’s right.

“Take care of yourself. Get rest.” How will you do that today? What will you do…or NOT do…this week in order to follow Sharon’s advice?

“Take care of yourself. Get rest.”

You’re worth it.

Thanks for sharing Joe. I think this holds true for whatever our career choice is. Learning that we can’t “fix it” on our own is the hardest yet most rewarding lesson!

I remember, as a child, the few places that were open for business on Sundays. We would stop by one of the drug stores for the newspaper and a few items we needed and, perhaps, a fountain soda. Grocery stores, furniture stores, department stores, all were shuttered. The family was the only real “open for business” establishment. I can remember boredom and sleeping on the floor in front of many a golf tournament or Charlie Chan movie. We had Sunday dinner, visited with the grandparents, played board games, etc. It was truly a peaceful day of rest, as were holidays (all of them)!! In a report once, I cited opening stores up on Sundays and the elimination of the Blue Laws in Missouri helping to pull at the fabric of the family. Those are the days of rest I seek and should make sure I find more often.
