Monday #5: “Better Than I Deserve”

June 8, 2015

Don’t just do the minimum that will get you by.

Do your best.

Work from the heart for your real Boss, for God,

confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance.

Keep in mind always that the ultimate Boss you’re serving is Christ.

The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible.

Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work.

— Colossians 3:22,23

Common question: “How ya doin?”

Uncommon answer: “Better than I deserve.”

Thanks to Dave Ramsey for that uncommon answer.  It’s one you and I would do well to remember, especially in light of today’s Scripture, you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance.

Whatever inheritance is ours comes as a gift.

What will our ultimate inheritance be like? Better than we deserve.

Join me today in being thankful for our Gracious God!

There we have it, in (what I assume to be) The Message translation of the scripture, my innate attention to mistakes and the pressing need to correct them (even if I don’t find them until after I hit post). “Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work.” That covers much of how long it takes me to hit submit on a document for publication. I endure the show on Monday nights, “Mike & Molly” to get to my real favorite Monday night show “Scorpion”. This season Molly started out writing a book. She kept re-writing, trashing, re-writing, and going back to editing the original. All the family members were telling Mike how good it was originally and how they were wishing she would finish, she was driving them crazy. While she was in the shower or something one episode, Mike pulled up her manuscript (even in the form to send to the publisher, I guess) and he hit “send”. Maybe I need a Mike in my life. I just know that sometimes I go to the nth degree in not wanting to “cover up bad work”.

“ever in the form to send…” grrr, me. I even put this one through spelling and grammar check.
