Monday #4: How Much Money is Enough?
Don’t just do the minimum that will get you by.
Do your best.
Work from the heart for your real Boss, for God,
confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance.
Keep in mind always that the ultimate Boss you’re serving is Christ.
The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible.
Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work.
— Colossians 3:22,23
A business owner friend of mine, who’s also a shrewd and highly successful investor, says, “Enough money is usually about 20% more than we have.”
That’s usually followed by a laugh and a head shake.
If we’re Christians, if understand that we work for God, if we’re putting our whole selves into what we’re doing (“Work from heart for your real Boss, for God”), we’ll never be paid in full this side of eternity.
Or as another friend who loves her work says, “They couldn’t pay me enough to make me stop doing this.”
Every day she’s paid in full, and not with just what lands in her bank account.
How about you?
I have very little and just had my income cut by $105 a month. But when I write, whether I am paid for it or not, I soar. I watched an interview the other morning with the new host of the Late Late Show on CBS. His first name is James C-something. They were interviewing him about the way the show has taken off with him at the helm. He was positively giddy about his show (only 34 shows in). Every question was met by a wide-eyed child-like unbelievability! I thought of the quote attributed to Marc Anthony, “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Paid in full! No matter what!
