Doesn’t sound like a typical UMC. I just don’t remember ever hearing of a pastor starting a church without an appointment. There is a church in this area that for a long time was mega (appointed minister though) and was never touched by reappointment. Kinda hard to believe. I don’t know the $90M price tag put me in mind of the minister who asked his congregation to buy him a $65M plane this week.
