Has God’s Love Vanished?

May 1, 2015

Here’s where we were yesterday:

Will the Lord reject forever?
Will God never show his favor again?
Has God’s unfailing love vanished forever?
Has God’s promise failed for all time?
Has God forgotten to be merciful?
Has God in anger withheld his compassion?

You’ll find all those questions and more in Psalm 77.

We’re swimming at the deep end of the pool here.

And let’s be honest: sometimes it feels like we’re drowning.

The very next verse of Psalm 77 says this: Then I thought, “To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.”

Say what?  Say this: I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.

Notice that significant shift.  In just one verse, we go from talking about God to talking to God.

That is huge.

What miracles of God can you remember?

Or are we like Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb on that first Easter? She was overwhelmed as she looked at the things of death.

But then she turned around, says John 20.

She turned around and she saw the resurrected Christ.

But she didn’t recognize him.

I’ve been right there, and so have you.

Today, let’s make the effort to remember God’s miracles. Let’s shift our focus from the things of death to the One who offers us life eternal and life abundant right now.

To prime the pumps of our souls, here are the next handful of verses, still in Psalm 77:

I will consider all your works
and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”

 Your ways, God, are holy.
What god is as great as our God?

You are the God who performs miracles.

What are some miracles you’ve known, seen, or experienced?

Too many to count, but yesterday we watched a wren try to get a stick that was to long for the opening into the birdhouse. She worked and worked, finally figured a way to get it in. I am constantly amazed at the marvelous works of God in all areas of the world.

Thank you for this! Exactly: everyday miracles are happening all the time, but we too often miss them; good to be reminded like this, Janet!
