If Jesus Did

November 8, 2014

Jesus came to Nazareth,

where he’d been brought up.

As usual,

he went into the synagogue

on the day of worship.

— Luke 4:16, God’s Word Translation

You and I can find endless excuses to not go to worship this weekend.  Maybe it’s too cold, or too hot.  Maybe we’re too tired, or too busy.  Maybe it’s simply too easy to not go, and we’ll find find an excuse later if we need one.

By contrast, Jesus was in the habit of getting together with others to worship.  Luke 4:16 says that  As usual, he went into the synagogue on the day of worship.

If Jesus did, so should we.

If habit, or as usual, defines the worship experience. Might I also say, “Let’s get er done” is an acceptable call to worship. Words can ascend to heaven’s heights; or drag down to new lows. Do we come because we thirst for God; do we hunger for Christ; or does the service just fit the bill. No change equals really no gain.
