Top of The List: job interview, part 7

November 5, 2014

One of the key qualities of this particular restaurant chain is their advancement practice.  Every key leader is promoted from within, and everyone employed there has opportunities to move up.

The Manager told the Prospective Employee, “If you aspire to have your own restaurant, first you work the front line and the front of the house and do it all exceedingly well.  Then you’re in the back, washing dishes.”

And we’re right back where we started this series over a week ago.  It’s all about servant leadership.  As St. Paul wrote in another context, If you think you are too good for that, you are badly deceived.  (Galatians 6:3)

There are a lotta reasons why this restaurant chain is the fastest growing business in the industry, and servant leadership is at the top of the list.

There’s a lesson right there for you and me today.

If you think you are too good for that, you are badly deceived.  (Galatians 6:3)

As one of two first-time Election Judges this week, the older women wanted to make sure we hit every station so we truly knew the system. Every two hours we rotated. The routines for each of the jobs were as straightforward as they had been in the lectures prior to the job. It was good to know the steps by doing as well. I am no longer afraid of the possibility of one day needing to be the person who sees to it all! I loved it when the young student Election Judge (16-years-old) pointed out Betty as being in charge. I loved Betty’s response, “There is no one ‘in-charge’, we are a team!” Sign of a true leader!
