Tales from The Trenches: Theologians at VBS, part 1 of 2.

July 31, 2014

“Stay in love with God” was our theme at Vacation Bible School last evening.  It’s the third of our Three Family Rules.

An eager volunteer had strapped on her Holy Spirit Jet Pack (shiny silver with flames flying out of it) and had read Psalm 100 out loud from a pew Bible’s New International Version.

My colleague, Pastor Leanne, walked us through The Message Version of that same Psalm.  That version was printed on one side of the bright yellow postcard everyone had.

As she was inviting us to turn our postcards over and draw or write something that fits with Psalm 100’s phenomenally joyful and grateful tone, one of our pre-schoolers jumped up and shouted, “I love God!  I love God…100!”

Immediately someone else shouted, “I love God…infinity!”

Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind.”  (Luke 10:27)

In other words, “Love God…infinity!”

My niece frequently posts motivational quotes. One last week was credited to Doe Zantamata: “Shine bright, do right, love on.” Sound vaguely familiar?

PATTI! So sorry I missed your Comment until just now! And yes, it does sound very familiar…and reminds me what a wise friend said: “All truth is God’s truth.”
