One Thing Today

March 8, 2014

Lent is a season of emptying and clearing what encumbers us, creating in us a place for Christ to rise again.  The call is clear: Let us not be weighed down in guilt, fear and sin — but open to God’s renewing promise in Christ.

That’s the ending of an entry this week in Disciplines 2014, a devotional book from The Upper Room.  With a different writer each week, this was written by Lib Campbell, who has this as a day gig: “Pastor Emeritus of Spiritual Formation.”

As much as I love that title, even better are those two quoted sentences at the top here. First, a succinct summary of this Season of The Gospel:

Lent is a season of

emptying and clearing what encumbers us,

creating in us a place for Christ to rise again.

I don’t wanna hurry away from that.  There are two parts here, and we love to talk about just the first, and it’s worth spending some time with for sure.

Lent is a season of

emptying and clearing

what encumbers us.

What is one thing today that encumbers you?

What is one thing today you’ll do to correct that situation?
