God’s Renewing Promise

March 9, 2014

Lent is a season of emptying and clearing what encumbers us, creating in us a place for Christ to rise again.  The call is clear: Let us not be weighed down in guilt, fear and sin — but open to God’s renewing promise in Christ.

That’s the ending of an entry this week in Disciplines 2014, a devotional book from The Upper Room.

Yesterday we listened to that first phrase about emptying and clearing what encumbers us.

Today, here’s why:

The call is clear: Let us not be weighed down in guilt, fear and sin

— but open to God’s renewing promise in Christ.

Hebrews 12:1 puts it this way: “Do you see what this means?  It means we’d better get on with it.  Strip down, start running, and never quit!  No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins.”  That’s from The Message version of the Bible.

And this is where it’s going: you and me being ever more open to God’s renewing promise in Christ.

I’m praying for that for you; please pray that for me.

And I’m going to get together with some other people to focus on God’s renewing promise in Christ.  Where will you worship today?
