Looking Back to That 9-11

September 11, 2013

Looking back to that 9-11, and you know which one, I remember that we had a 9am Bible Study.

When I got to the church building, several people were gathered around a tv in the office.  That was surprising, but even more shocking were the images and sounds of The Twin Towers.

We watched in horror as the second plane hit.

Uncomprehending, we sat suspended in motionless silence.

Eventually, with our full group of Bible Study regulars huddled together with our office crew, I could stomach no more.

We moved down the hall to the room where we always met for prayer and Bible Study.

On that 9-11 morning we prayed more than we studied, and we began talking about a combined prayer service for our community.

I have not forgotten that 9-11, have you?

    Joe,

I, too, remember that 9/11 of 2001. I was on my way to work, waiting for the light to change at 3rd & Fayette in Effingham, when I heard the radio describe the scene at Tower #1 and then the second plane hit Tower #2. I was stunned! I immediately knew we were at war, but could only think of the people that I may have known in Tower #2. You see, I worked for an engineering company, years ago, whose offices were on the 72nd floor of Tower #2. I had visited the home office many times to discuss engineering issues and meet with prospective clients. I am not sure how many of my former colleagues were still with the company, but I imagined many were still working there at the time. I felt a great loss!

And though it has been many years since I worked for that company, I still think about the friends that I may have lost on that day.
