Joseph’s Answer

July 13, 2013

“Are you having a good day?”

Joseph and I were spending the day together.  He’s our son, 27 years old and lives in a group home two states away.  We hadn’t seen each other in over 7 months, but we text and call each other about 10-20 times  a day on average, but who’s counting, right?

Given both of our schedules, we had literally this one day together.

We began with a long list of people he wanted me to meet and errands I wanted us to get done.  We were accomplishing several things on both of our lists when we noticed it was a gorgeous summer day with a perfect breeze.  A hike suddenly seemed like a good alternative to a list.

He suggested the zoo.

It was a crowded day at the zoo.  Standing in a line there I was suddenly worried that we were not doing things he’d planned.  I turned to him and blurted out a question: “Are you having a good day?”

Instantly he answered.

Immediately I was a mess.

He has so much to teach me, this son who lives in a group home.

“Are you having a good day?”  I asked.

“Always,” he answered.  “Always.”

How about you?  Are you having a good day?

He still has that beautiful smile (it just lights up the room) and it sounds like he has a beautiful spirit to go with the smile:)

Joe, What I see is God talking to a man of God. To often we try to define so many things that are just that . Joseph is Joseph and often times he can show you the Glory of God in the simplest things and yet the things long remembered.
