Beyond New Year’s Day: The Irresistible Future

January 2, 2013

“Leave the irreparable past in God’s hands,

and step out into the irresistible future with Him.”

— Oswald Chambers

It used to be Guy Lombardo.  Then it was Dick Clark.

Now it’s people like Carson Daly and Anderson Cooper.

New Year’s Eve on tv.  The giant ball on Times Square dropped.

Instantly the old year was history and the new one was underway.  Boom.  Done.

But real life doesn’t always work that way for most of us.  Our lives are more of a process.

Oswald Chambers understood that as well.  He invites us to step out into the irresistible future.”   One step.

Followed by another.  And another.

And Chambers reminds us that we’re not doing this by ourselves.  It’s only after leaving “the irreparable past in God’s hands” that we can “step out into the irresistible future with Him.”

On this second day of the new year, which is also the 9th Day of Christmas, let’s you and me remember that we’re not walking alone.  Because of the Christ of Christmas, we can walk into this new day with God.

One step at a time.

With God.

Where are your steps with God taking you today?  I’d love to hear about it.

And I’ll see you back here tomorrow.

Irresistible future! Irresistible grace, 2013 is doable. I am so grateful that Epiphany it takes us into the new year with the freshness of a Baby’s birth. That continued celebration of a saviour ironically delivers us from an old year, our past, into a clean clean new year with no regret, our future . Jesus , what a help,(from his first breath), a help for sinners.
