Ruth’s Rule #1

December 17, 2012

Ruth is a retired Art Teacher.

We celebrated her 100th birthday in July.

Three days ago she told me correctly that she’s now “100 and a half.”

She’s my mom.

When asked the secret to a long life, her answer is “Enjoy every moment.”

I think of those three words as Ruth’s Rule #1.

She’s never been too big on rules.  I’m not even sure there is a Ruth’s Rule #2.

She’s an Art Teacher, remember.

But that one summarizes lots of advice and guidance she’s given my entire life:  “Enjoy every moment.”

Try that today.

Let me know how it goes.  I’ll be happy to show her your online responses when I’m over at her nursing home.

And tomorrow, I’ll tel you my dad’s Corollary to Ruth’s Rule #1.

See you back here then, and meanwhile remember to “Enjoy every moment.”

The joyful moments have flowed through a grateful mind all weekend. I am working hard on this rule right now!

My grandma lived to be 100 1/2. She always said if you “talk the talk” you had better “walk the walk” and she did.
