Now, More Than Ever, We Remain

September 12, 2012

This applies to The Church as well —

“Eventually the global investment community will remember (as it always does)

that there are companies creating massive economic benefits

for their customers, employees, shareholders, and societies at large.

“I won’t go on record predicting WHEN that epiphany will occur,

but now more than ever we remain focused….”

—from an April 2012 investment Prospectus

We could re-state that like this:

Eventually those outside the church will see (as people do)

that there are churches where God is creating massive change and renewal

for the believers and society at large.

Meanwhile, our assignment is to be a part of what God’s up to, right where we are.

Beyond that, let me again refer to that investment Prospectus, only without changing the next line at all:

I won’t go on record predicting WHEN that epiphany will occur,

but now more than ever we remain focused….

Now more than ever.  Today, in the wake of the 11th anniversary of 9-11, more than ever.  Today, as news comes in about killings at a US Embassy, more than ever.  Today, as our nation moves through a divisive election season, more than ever.

More than ever, we remain focused.

And then we hear someone coughing over on the sideline.  He clears his throat.

Then he says, “You’re focused?  Good.  Focus first on God.  Celebrate God all day, every day.  I mean, revel in God!

And then focus on people, too.  Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you’re trying  to understand them.  Work with them, not against them.  Help them see that Christ Jesus is about to arrive.  He could show up at any minute!”

And you and I realize our old friend St. Paul has just quoted what he wrote in Philippians 4:4 and 4:5.

And he’s not kidding.
