“Get Thee Behind Me, Satan!” part 3 of 3.

Scott Gunn, an Episcopal priest, wrote this in a piece entitled God’s Ways are Not Our Ways, and it’s too good not to share with you. It’s based on Matthew 18:21-23, and a line that a choir member would turn and say to me and then laugh and hug me just before we processed into worship. Ready, set, go —

If Jesus can call Peter into leadership and love him despite his stunning mistakes, surely the same Lord can find a use for me despite my regular mistakes.

And that’s not all.

Sometimes as I study the scriptures, I struggle with the demands Jesus seems to make on me and on others. And yet Jesuss has purpose — a portion of which is to love and redeem sinners like you and me.
