BONUS BLOG: “women preachers?!”

While some vote to ban women from pulpits, I’m thrilled to be a United Methodist Christian instead. Part of our history is that we’ve been ordaining women for 70 years now; that’s longer than some of us have been alive.

A great anecdote, varieties of which have been told and retold by outstanding highly respected colleagues I trust, resonates – —

Scene:
a pastor wearing a clerical collar is standing in a grocery store check out line…or pumping gas…or…or…

Other Person:
“I don’t believe in women preachers like you.”

Pastor:
“And yet here I am, standing right in front of you.”

and then there’s this

“Without women preaching we would have no knowledge of the Resurrection.” (Jurgen Moltmann)

and then there’s also this

“We ordain women because we baptize girls.” (Chuck Poole on Baptist News Global, sourced by my friend and colleague John Vidakovich)

and then there’s this

Rose is a Rev.
Violet’s one too.
God wants women in pulpits
Not just in the pew.
(Peter Oliver)

There’s more. So much more. But I’m sure you get the idea.

And then there are the Scriptural examples….

Not looking for an argument.

I’m long since worn out with such alleged controversies.

Is anybody else?
