Are We Listening, Church?

Leo Burnett was an advertising genius. For details, see my humble blog here from 5.16.26, “The Apple Bowl Stayed on the Desk.”

But this part of it…uhm…are we listening, Church?

By the 1960s, his agency was massive.

But Leo noticed people getting comfortable.

Caring more about LOOKING successful than doing great work.

So in 1967, he called everyone into a room.

Gave a speech that became legendary:

“When you start believing size is a substitute for quality…

When you lose your humility…

When you act big instead of being big…

It’s time to take my name off the door.”
