But We All Do.

June 4, 2025

Long ago and far away, it fell to me as the host pastor to co-officiate at what we United Methodists now know as A Service of Death and Resurrection. I was liturgist. A far more esteemed colleague was the preacher that day.

In the sermon, a sideways reference was made to the deceased and what we politely refer to as habits or addictions or substance abuse or any number of other labels.

Pause.

Then: “Let’s not act like we don’t know what that’s about. We do. He had stuff going on just like the rest of us. Some of our stuff is just dressed up differently. He had stuff. We got stuff.”

KaBOOM.

What are you willing to admit to yourself is some of your stuff?

Need help understanding this? From our time together here yesterday, check out Romans 7:19-23 again.

Hope to see you back here tomorrow.
