PASTORS AND CHURCHES AND EVERYBODY ELSE
FROM 02.18.25 — With his graciously expressed permission, I share what friend and colleague Monty Weatherall wrote earlier today —–
The church has become a laughing stock, a place to be mocked. A once-pillar in our community has been reduced to fodder for social media posts, vlogs, and a way for many to grow their new podcast.
The pastor. once one of the most respected people in the community, is now laughed at and reviled.
We think that having “big day” events where members go get other members from other congregations in hopes of convincing them that our congregation is better is evangelism when it is absolutely not. My hope is that we will invite the lost, unchurched, or de-churched to attend. But some won’t. They will invite their friends who already have a great church. And I’ll smile while wondering, why didn’t you invite and bring your neighbor who might not have a relationship with God or a local church?
