Not Just for Church People Only, part 2
If you’ve not yet ready yesterday’s offering here, please do. Tom Fuerst has much to say there to all of us. and I do mean ALL of us.
What he wrote will give you some helpful context for this, which is from me —
Reaching way back more years than I’ll readily admit, here’s a sample from my final four page Charge Conference Pastor’s Report as one under full time appointment and planning to retire in a few months —
There is an expectation
of a concierge level of attention
that is often unreasonable.
—- People were asking me why I was retiring so young. When I quit laughing and was able to thank them for the compliment, if I sensed they were still listening and at all interested, I’d use phrases like “unrealistic expectations” and “unrelenting demands.” Several memorable conversations ensued.
ACTION STEP: Moving forward into this new calendar year, rather than simply complaining about your pastor(s) and/or your church, ask your pastor(s) and/or some designated leaders what you can to be helpful.
The worst that could happen is that you’d become more involved in the life and ministry of your church.
