BONUS BLOG: A Christian Nation?

I’m moving out of this guy’s way as fast as I can —

“Where, I ask, do the Christians live?

“Who one and all have the love of God filling their hearts, and constraining them to love their neighbor as themselves, who have all ‘put on mercy, humbleness of mind, gentleness, long-suffering’ who offend not in any kind, either by word or deed, against justice, mercy, or truth; but in every point do unto all; as they would these should do unto them?

“With what propriety can we term any a Christian country which does not answer this description? Why then, let us confess we have never yet seen a Christian country upon earth.”

— What misguided, deranged offspring of that other political party tossed all that at us?

Let me be clear: Thus preached John Wesley in a 1744 sermon at Oxford University entitled “Scriptural Christianity.”

Perhaps you’re as silenced, as “convicted” as Methodists used to say, as I am by his words.

By the grace of God, may we be moved to appropriate action…amen?
