Ok, a Favorite Verse of Mine

June 13, 2024

Don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ. The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work. (Colossians 3:23-25)

COPIED —-

Every time I think of Sir Eric Clapton, I can’t help but think of some advice I gave an aspiring luthier many years ago.

A song, an image, or working on one of his signature guitars like this 000-28EC I’m currently finishing up, it doesn’t matter, l’ll always remember this.

He had asked me “what’s the number one thing for doing perfect refret work?”

I said to him, “Do it like you’re doing a refret for Eric Clapton”

He laughed and said, “no seriously”.

Yes, seriously. The thing is, everything you do to someone’s guitar, treat it like it’s the most important job you’ll ever have no matter who it’s for.

It doesn’t matter if it’s for Sir Eric Clapton or some kid down the street you’re trying to help out, EVERYONE deserves the very best of YOU

—Now let’s you and me go back and reread that Bible verse again, and consider how much more we should let that shape our work today.

As always, I’d love to hear from you anytime.
