BONUS BLOG: at the end of the day, UMC?

May 30, 2024

Dennis Miller is the senior pastor at Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church and a real online friend. Earlier today he graciously shared the following ——

As I attend my 33rd Annual Conference today at Capital University in Columbus, Rachel and I continue to choose unity over division in the Church.

No matter the place we come from or the theological tribe we identify with, we know that doesn’t fully define us.

We appreciate and treasure the friendships and partnerships we have formed over the past three decades.

We don’t dismiss the challenges we face serving a growing local church in a declining denomination, but our focus is on greater things.

Our strength has never been in our bureaucratic structure or political beliefs, but in our witness.

Our unity as United Methodists is found in our belief in Jesus Christ, our love for Scripture, our dependence on the Holy Spirit, our pursuit of personal and social holiness, our commitment to covenant together in our work toward a common mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

At the end of the day, we simply pray people will see Jesus in us!

My prayer for this Annual Conference is Ephesians 3:17-19, that we may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that we may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

—- Amen. Amen! AMEN!!!
