I’ve Known Churches Like This

February 17, 2024

Pull up a chair.

Let’s listen and learn —-

“The Allman Brothers band is one of the all-time, good-cookin’ bands. their forte isn’t their material per se, but the way in which it is done. While keeping the basic musical idea simple and repetitive, in the classic rock tradition, they build on it with layers of percussion and interlocking riffs which hint at their influence of rock and roll, rhythm and blues and country music.

“That all the musicians have had studio experience is evident in the complex interweaving and interlocking of parts; not that the band doesn’t have a good measure of pure gut power. The band derives its power from the fact that it is as exciting individually as collectively.

“While the band is a musician’s group in every sense of the term, it is a group which has also been able to communicate its unique identity, its musical idea, to non-musicians. Jim Greenberg

And when you and I are part of churches like that, wow!

Cue up what our old friend St. Paul wrote about the importance of all the different parts of the body.

Together. Beyond ourselves.

You and I may be thinking, “Yeah, but…and…but…”

Let me interrupt our excuses with this picture of the ABB playing at the Junior Prom from the Columbia High School, Decatur, GA yearbook —-

—- Well now….
