New Year’s Day, One Week Later

January 8, 2024

Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward – to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.

Philippians 3:13,14

One week ago today I got this email —

There’s something magical about January 1st, isn’t there?
The busyness of the past year (and the holidays) comes to a halt and people slow down for a fresh start.
But… uhm, nothing actually changed.
The habits you had yesterday didn’t disappear. The hustle at work starts on your first day back. And the dreams you had for 2023 are still, well, dreams.
Don’t let it be another year of ‘new year… same me.’
I’ve spent YEARS studying why New Year’s resolutions fail, and chances are, you’re no stranger: You sprint out of the gates and run out of steam by FebruaryYou set a goal SO ambitious, you doubt you’ll achieve it from the get-goThere isn’t anyone you can trust to keep you on track And after years of trying without success, the worst of them all—you simply doubt the fact you’ll follow through, so you don’t even bother anymore.

— Does that sound painfully familiar?

Then next came the sales pitch.

I’m not selling you anything.

I’m asking you what’s one thing you’re doing differently, consistently, that is moving you forward?

If you’re drawing a blank, reread the first part above here from that email again.

And be certain you’re in my prayers.

And as always, I sure appreciate yours.
