Not Really about Your Coffee

I find myself this morning reflecting on the idiom “Don’t leave your coffee for too long and then be surprised why it’s cold – I’m not talking about coffee.” This saying teaches us a valuable lesson about not taking things for granted or expecting things to remain unchanged, especially in our spiritual lives.
Often in our walk with God, we get comfortable with where we are at and start to neglect our relationship with Him. We become complacent, thinking that our faith will remain strong and vibrant without any effort on our part. However, just like leaving coffee to go cold, neglecting our spiritual life can leave us feeling disconnected and distant from God.
We cannot expect our faith to remain at the same level without putting in the effort to nurture and grow it. We must make a conscious effort to read the Bible, pray, attend church, and engage in other spiritual disciplines to keep our faith alive and growing. We cannot just sit back and expect our faith to thrive without any effort.
The idiom also reminds us not to take things for granted. We should never assume that our faith will always be strong, our relationships will always be healthy, or that our jobs will always be secure. We must appreciate and value the blessings in our lives and work to maintain them instead of assuming that they will always be there for us without any effort.
In conclusion, as we continue on our faith journey, let us not be like the coffee that has gone cold due to neglect. Instead, let us be intentional in nurturing our relationship with God and valuing the blessings in our lives that we may grow and flourish in all areas of our lives.
