Don’t Join Book Burners

“Don’t join the book burners,” said President Dwight D. Eisenhower. “Don’t be afraid to go into your (public) library and read every book.”

I was blessed with parents who didn’t censor books or films or plays or tv shows or…you get the idea.

Certainly made for an interesting childhood and some awkward times along the way.

But their underlying lesson was what I now know to call discernment, based on things like 1st John 4:1 and Romans 12:2.

And the alternative is so unappealing as to be abhorrent.

Sometime ask me about my dad’s bit about walking to the edge of a cliff. It’s good.

Meanwhile, cancel your reservation for that book burning.
