We’ll Never Over-Do Encouraging

October 18, 2023

Scotty Smith is a friend IRL. We met when I was at his Presbyterian seminary, and he’s solid. For example —

Let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Heb. 10:25

Lord Jesus, this is surprising, ponder-worthy, and, well, encouraging. With a view to your 2nd Coming, the Scriptures command us to become exponential encouragers—to build each other up more and more.

Not flatterers—which is manipulation dressed up in a smile and party dress.

Not fear-mongers and worrywarts—projecting our anxieties and vexation on each another.

Not free-roaming critics—offering our opinions and judgments about everything and everyone.

Ratherencouragers—those committed to love, serve, and catch each other “doing it right”—affirming what is commendable, overlooking what is annoying, seeing what you see in each of us.

Indeed, encouragement is nothing more than the overflow of how you love us, Jesus. No one is more committed to our peace, joy, and encouragement than you. Hallelujah, and thank you.

Help us “see the Day approaching,” with greater clarity and joy than ever before. Allow us to catch the fragrance of the new heaven and new earth wafting towards us.

Before long, all things will be new and beautiful. That Day is a lot closer than we realize.

Until then, free us to worship, work, and play as unto you, Jesus.

Grant us quick repentances when we under-believe the Gospel, and palpable joy each time we catch a fresh glance of your beauty.

We are SO looking forward to your return.

So Very Amen.
