Stolen Words
For a long time I’ve been bothered that we let one part of Christ’s Holy Church corner the market on Acts 2.
We let them walk out the door with the very word that names that day.
At least they didn’t get away with The Holy Spirit.
Just the words Pentecost and Pentecostal.
There at least three other words whose comparable theft I mourn.
All of this is to set up what I’d like to offer you for the next nine days here: Kurt Struckmeyer’s “Nine Key Teachings of Jesus” from his work An Unorthodox Faith.
And right there, in that title, is one of the other stolen words.
