Who’s the Greatest?
Find Matthew 25:24.
It’ll be worth your effort.
— Joe.
John Schmid is a real life friend from my Asbury days who’s a full time singer and evangelist and I love him and his work. He recently wrote —
In the early ‘70’s Jim and Jesse performed at Hiland High School in Berlin (Ohio) and I was the local opening act.
In the back stage room (the boys locker room) I must have made a comment about my amateur guitar skills when Jim looked me straight in the eye and said,
“Let me tell you something, son… the best guitar player in Nashville today is Chet Atkins. The most basic (simplest) guitar player is Bob Wooten,” (Johnny Cash’s lead guitar player).
Then he said, “You put Chet Atkins on stage for a half hour, and then put Bob Wooten on for a half hour, the audience will like then both about the same.”
That encouraging word from one of the most famous bluegrass stars of the time gave me the confidence to step on stage in front of whatever size crowd and sing.
