Not Even in a Dump Truck
It started in 5th grade.
Tom Baker, Joey Vallone, and I were told we could play Rhythm Sticks in the Christmas Concert rather than sing. We actually believed our banging away during The Little Drummer Boy helped the song.
Time went by.
Every band I’ve ever been in I’ve never had a mic. Even when everybody else did.
I’ve also been told that people in nursing homes and some other places like it when I lead singing, “because we can hear you.” In other words, I can be loud.
So it was that the words of Andrea Roth Murdock resonated back with me way back in June when I came upon a prayer she wrote in Disciplines 23 —
O Lord, I sing your praises even if I can’t carry a tune.
You are steadfast, faithful, and worthy of my praise.
— Yup…”even if I can’t carry a tune.”
Anybody else take comfort in the Psalmist’s admonition to make a joyful noise unto the Lord…even in a dump truck?
