A Nurse’s Final Shift
·
Angela Gay Kinkead is an excellent friend IRL, an honored colleague who has served at the national and international levels in our denomination, and yeah…and you’d have loved her mom, too. (Ask me sometime about how her mom, Delores, regaled an entire airport waiting area with stories!) On March 23, 2023, AGK as I know her, shared this and has graciously given me permission to share with you here —
Mother’s funeral today closed with the Nurse Honor Guard reading a call & response litany based on the Nightingale Prayer and “last call” when they called her name and rang a bell 3 times.
When she didn’t respond, they released her from service and from any further shifts. Mother completed her training and was licensed as an LPN at the age of 52. We were proud of her.
She never gave up on her lifelong dream.
