No Fooling: Real Learning
Steve Colonel is a High School Band Director, Music Teacher, Yearbook Advisor, and friend. It’s with his graciously expressed permission that I share this from Wednesday of this week with you here —
It’s been a while since I’ve bragged on the Chester (IL) High School Music Department publicly.
We’ve been having some outstanding rehearsals lately in preparation for the state organization contest in a couple weeks.
What sets Chester apart from many of the schools our size is our music. We could easily play music with WAY less difficulty (both at solo contest and organization contest) to secure a string of high ratings and points, but the true value of the contest lies in challenging kids to stretch beyond their comfort zone.
We have and always will choose more difficult music to perform even if it means sacrificing the higher ratings.
The education
comes in the process
not the outcome.
Chester kids know what it’s like to perform high level, high quality literature, and the rest is just icing on the cake! We will continue to deliver high quality performances…that’s our promise!
— St. Paul calls you and me to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)
What‘s one way you can link what Paul and Steve say, and then apply that to yourself today?
As always, I look forward to hearing from you.
