What Stephen King and Fern Have in Common

June 8, 2021

“Before Stephen King gets out of bed at 6 a.m.,” The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday, “he makes a mental inventory of the things he’s grateful for.”

How about you?

And do you hear that piano in the background right now? I sure do — it’s Fern. She’s here in my memory, still somewhere in her 80’s. She was part of the third of three churches I served when fresh out of seminary. She loved playing her favorite hymn which was also her favorite testimony introduction: Count Your Blessings.

When I do that you, yes, you, are in the top five on my list. Thank you for reading my stuff here.

Wanna go one step better than Stephen King? Wanna follow Fern’s advice? One simple step: commit your “mental inventory” as Mr. King calls it to writing…as in, keep a notebook handy and jot down your Blessings.

As Fern’s song says, “it will surprise you what the Lord has done.”
