Can She Take Holy Communion with Us?
“She’s only seven years old and doesn’t understand what all it means.”
That was a parent asking me, their newly-minted pastor, about their daughter taking Holy Communion.
Rather than clearing my throat and putting on my stained glass voice before answering, I heard myself laughing as I blurted out, “Neither do I! Do you?!”
After 40+ years in the parish, I’m still not sure I have a better answer.
And I still celebrate our belief and practice of The Lord’s Table being “open” every time we celebrate that Holy Sacrament.
